Career Planning 
QQI Level 4 (4N1109)

Programme Aim:

This programme module aims to equip the learner with the knowledge, skills and competence to develop an achievable career plan based on knowledge of self and the world of work/self-employment.

 

Learners who attend this programme will be able to:

  • Explain the principles underpinning career planning, to include self-knowledge, career options, action plan, network building, plan implementation and constancy of change

  • Compile a personal profile by exploring interests, vocational skills, transferable skills, talents, personal qualities and characteristics, values, achievements and matching personal profile to possible careers

  • Develop achievable career objectives to include ideal job, acceptable alternative employment options and short and medium term goals

  • Explore a variety of acceptable career options and job types to include job availability, job requirements and trends in the chosen sector(s)

  • Compile information on personal contacts or networks appropriate to career preferences

  • Describe the principles underpinning managing change in personal life and in employment

  • Practice a range of personal interactions to  include interview skills, listening, clarifying and formal and informal conversations

  • Compile a personal job seeking toolkit to include general cover letter, CV, portfolio of references, recommendations, qualifications and other documentation to support job application, list of contacts, and list of appropriate education or training programmes or employment options

  • Prepare to participate in further education or training or employment by finding application requirements for a specific course or employment, applying as required, participating in a simulated interview and evaluating own performance

Currently offered free to learners on the Webnet+ programme

Duration:

This programme will currently run for one morning a week for 6 weeks either online using the Zoom platform or face to face. Learners will be required to complete work in their own time. 

Access:

To access this programme leading to a Level 4 Award the learner should have reached a  Level 3 or equivalent. This may have been through a formal qualification or through relevant life and work experience. 

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):

Participants may wish to apply for exemption from parts of this programme based on prior learning experience, valid and reliable evidence will need to be provided.

Transfer:

On successful completion of this component award enables the learner to transfer to programmes leading to other certificates where this component is a mandatory or an elective requirement. 

Progression:

This minor award leads to a Level 4 Minor award on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) and can be used to meet the requirements of the following Major Award: Employment Skills (4M0857).

Supports:

A range of accommodations and supports are available according to specific needs of the learner. Please ensure you provide us with as much information as soon as possible.

Required fluency:

​Required in generic skills such as English/literacy/numeracy/interpersonal skills.

IT Equipment Required

You will need the use of a laptop or PC (with internet connection if delivered online) in order to complete this programme . You will require a working knowledge of Zoom and MS Word or equivalent.

QQI Assessment

Learners who wish to achieve this QQI Component Certificate must complete a Portfolio/Collection of Work (60%) Skills Demonstration (40%)

Grading:

Pass 50% - 64%, Merit 65% - 79%, Distinction 80% - 100%

Week 5   Skills Demonstration

  • Preparation for Skills Demonstration

 

Week 6   Skills Demonstration

  • Each learner will demonstrate a task or presentation that demonstrate a range of skills
